Uppato un paio d'anni or sono in uno dei vari forum "transitori" dell'187, ripropongo a richiesta il triplice raccoltone del Kool Genius... Come avrete capito non si tratta di un Greatest Hits, ma della raccolta di molti fuori-album del nostro, assemblata a mio gusto e logica, quindi (anche per un discorso di omogeneità del suono) scordatevi di trovare classiconi very old school dentro al pentolone. Grafica davvero essenziale stavolta, ispirata da Blue Note. Malgrado la cover che vedete qui sopra, si tratta in realtà di due file, fronte e retro (+ i 3 CD) studiati per il jewel case doppio (tipo Full Clip A Decade Of Gang Starr o Life After Death per intenderci). La versione che vi ho caricato è pressoche identica alla precedente, salvo qualche fixaggio grafico, MP3 tags vari e la sostituzione di un pezzo nella tracklist del terzo disco.

Che dire...Superbo.
Ho ripreso in mano quest'album solo due giorni fa, stava li tra gli altri dischi che non lo ascoltavo da almeno 8 mesi...Ma quando ieri in macchina l'ho messo nello stereo, mi son letteralmente innamorato del disco, non fraintendetemi non che prima non mi fosse piaciuto, ma riascoltando a distanza di tempo ho saputo apprezzare il disco più di quanto non avessi fatto prima. E' una botta di Jazz-Rap da paura e Buckwild fa un lavoro davvero da 10 con lode. Io ho la ristampa dell'anno scorso qui a casa in cui sono inseriti alcuni più celebri remix tra cui "Time's Up" remixata da Finesse che caccia una beat da ricovero, quel pianoforte è eccelso, oppure la stessa Word Life remixata (per quanto mi riguarda al meglio) da Buckwild. Lasciando stare i remix mi concentro sulle traccie che più mi piacciono. Va inserita senza dubbi la titletrack "Word Life" il disco comincia con un pezzo che mette i brividi, il campione è magistrale e magistralmente Buckwild lo arrangia con altri strumenti rendendo il Beat unico e forse (a mio avviso) il più bello del disco. Purtroppo Finesse ci lascia solo una produzione in "Ga Head", ma non si fa rimpiangere visto lo spessore della base. OC manco a dirlo è un mago con le rime e se una volta Mak disse che non riesce a contare tutte le volte che le rime di Prodigy sono state campionate, beh OC gli fa concorrenza, visto che solo con i primi ascolti sono riuscito a ritrovare 3,4 frasi campionate in altre pezzi di HH americano e non.
Beh tanto il disco il conoscete già tutti quindi è inutile proseguire con gli elogi.

Come mi è stato richiesto in tag,vi propongo uno dei capolavori del rap di ogni genere...Nel 98 i Gangstarr erano già affermati,con alle spalle anni di carriera e di successi,fatti di dischi come Hard To Earn o canzoni come Mass Appeal,Ex Girl To Next Girl e via dicendo...Ovvio che da uno dei migliori gruppi (il migliore?) della storia del rap,ci si attenda un capolavoro quantomeno...Ed è quello a cui ci troviamo di fronte...Canzoni come Work,In Memory Of...,Moment Of Truth,Betrayal con 'Face,Above The Clouds o JFK 2 LAX sono classici di questa musica,con Guru che sciorina la sua arte in modo perfetto per tutta la durata del disco,trattando gli argomenti più vari...Su Premier penso ci sia davvero poco da contestare,ci saranno tracce che piacciono di più o di meno,ma son tutte ottime produzioni degne di un grandissimo...Ascoltatevelo,amatelo e se potete compratelo,perchè merita un casino...
Questo post è dedicato a una strofa,che personalmente adoro.La strofa in questione è quella di R.A. The Rugged Man su Uncommon Valor : A Vietnam Story ,presente sul penultimo album dei Jedi Mind Tricks,Servants In Heaven,Kings In Hell del 2007.Poco fa Nasir sul forum aveva aperto un topic a riguardo e in questi giorni mi sono soffermato sul pezzo anche io.E' impossibile descrivere cosa combina RA quì,un flow assurdo,un testo da brividi,una tecnica perfetta.Davvero si grida al miracolo quando si sentono robe del genere,è uno di quei pezzi che ti rimangono nella mente e rimani a bocca aperta quando li senti.E' passato più di un anno da quando è uscita e io ancora ascolto questa strofa come se fosse la prima volta.Di fronte a questa anche la buona prestazione di Vinnie Paz,MC dei JMT viene messa in ombra,così come l'ottima base di Stupe.Insomma dovete sentirla,e se già la conoscete risentitela con il testo sotto gli occhi,e ristupitevi ancora.Grazie al blog L'Analisi Del Testo è possibile leggere la strofa tradotta per tutti quelli che non hanno troppa confidenza con l'inglese.

Molecules, Cee-Low e Chucky Smash: 3 ragazzi del quartiere cardine dell Hip-Hop sfornano il suddetto album autoproducendolo per il 90% (il restante 10% è affidato alle sapienti mani dei Blacksheep, nel cui album del 94 i Legionari fanno la loro apparizione in "We Boys", Showbiz e C.M.E.).
il risultato è un prodotto non adatto a quella cosa chiamata "mainstream",ed è per questo che forse i Legionari sono rimasti nell ombra. ma non importa, l album è un tripudio di hardcore, alternato comunque a pezzi più leggeri. personalmente è il mio album preferito, spero possiate apprezzarlo anche voi.

Poco da dire su quest'album...Esordio dopo un EP (3 canzoni son presenti qui di quel EP) per Showbiz e AG,membri della leggendaria DITC...Nel disco troviamo partecipazioni di Big L,Lord Finesse e Diamond D tra l'altro e che altro aggiungere?Classico vero,a quei tempi Showbiz produceva divinamente e AG al mic lo accompagnava alla grandissima...Da sentire e avere,senza dubbi!!

Ricollegandomi al post precedente di Ema colgo l'occasione per postare anche quest'altro ottimo album degli ATCQ, ossia Midnight Marauders. Una caratteristica originale del disco è l'inserimento di una voce computerizzata che qualche volta ci guida nelle canzoni e ne spiega in parte il significato. Immagino che molti di voi o forse tutti, conoscerete questo magnifico disco degli ATCQ, che nn ha pari nello scenario dell'hip hop, nel senso che è unico ed irreplicabile. Personalmente quest'album è cosi bello che sovrasta dischi come Illmatic, Ready to Die, Step in the Arena ecc. Ovviamente è una cosa personale, ma devo dirvi che non sono l'unico a pensarla cosi. C'è poco da descrivere basta una parola: CLASSICO. Da ascoltare.

Grazie a Simo per averlo postato,lo metto qui nei post per ricordarmi quanto è bello sto disco!Sono groupie matta di LL lo ammetto,e non skippo mezza traccia anke grazie all'ottimo lavoro di Marley Marl alle macchine...Dalle liriche impegnate come la titletrack alle canzoni più leggere come 6 Minute Of Pleasure o Around The Way Girl,LL non si fa mancare niente in sto disco che io reputo un classico istantaneo...A voi gente!
Amo quest'album alla follia...Non c'è una canzone che sia ripetitiva e noiosa,con testi sempre diversi e con argomenti sempre vari Slick Rick caccia fuori un capolavoro della old School che non si può non ascoltare...Da Teenage Love a The Ruler's Back passando per Hey young World fino a Let's Get Crazy,giusto qualche esempio di come un rapper dovrebbe scrivere per comunicare ai suoi ascoltatori...Classico senza dubbi di sorta...
