"Few artists can combine uncomfortable with catchy; paranoiac with head-nodding; morbid with springy. Rapper, producer and Def Jux founder El-P knows how to get to parts of the brain others can't. As a solo artist and frontman for seminal hip-hop group Company Flow or producer of Cannibal Ox, Cage, Mr. Lif, Aesop Rock, NIN, Beck, The Mars Volta (and many, many more), an El-P production can drive you to hide underneath the bed, punch a wall and nod your head all at the same time. Which brings us to Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3, the sort of, kind of but not really follow-up to his past two mixes of the same name previously released at live shows.
It's another unique release in the artist's catalog. In the tradition of Company Flow's Little Johnny From The Hospitul (1998), El's own Collecting The Kid (2005), and more recently Weareallgoingtoburninhellmeggamixxx2 (2007), Hell3 is a fully realized suite of instrumentals that continues to exemplify the producer's versatile, otherworldly, futuristic and wholly original sonic worldview.
Hell3 both sounds similar to and nothing like anything you've heard before. "Drunk With a Loaded Pistol" starts off woozy and deranged before evolving into a warning alarm/drum attack. "Time Won't Tell" opens as a soundtrack for the apocalypse followed by the layering of guitar-driven pop over boom-bap drums. As the album title implies, El-P creates a dark, dystopian sonic universe filled with ominous basslines and thumping, punishing drums."

Madlib Medicine Show #7: High Jazz is an all-new Madlib jazz production. High Jazz, the name itself a tribute to the landmark jazz-fusion album released by Stanton Davis’s Ghetto Mysticism in 1976, shows a marked development in Madlib’s craft.
Since the introduction of Madlib’s Yesterdays New Quintet releases nearly a decade ago, the producer’s core group of musicians and collaborators (known collectively as “Yesterdays Universe”) has grown by the dozens. The notoriously elusive, publicity-shy and anti-commercial ethic of the group has kept many of the recordings from every being released, while others have been pressed anonymously, kept within the group or distributed only among private collectors.
Among the newly released tracks on High Jazz are a Madlib, Karriem Riggins & James Poyser collaboration, the debut of groups Generation Match, The Big Black Foot Band, RMC, and a 15-minute live piece by Yesterdays New Quintet (recorded at a secret show in 2000). The 15-track album runs a total of 61 minutes.
Limited edition 3-disc vinyl: Madlib has collected an additional 30 minutes of music for the limited edition vinyl release of High Jazz. These tracks are not available on the CD or digital release. "Dutch is the buzzed about new project featuring the vocals of newcomer Liz Fullerton and production by Stoupe of the critically acclaimed Hip-Hop group Jedi Mind Tricks. The unlikely duo first collaborated on the JMT track “Razorblade Salvation”on Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell and again on the track “Death Messiah” from , A History of Violence. "The Chicago, IL-based Rhymefest first gained national attention as the co-songwriter of Kanye West's Grammy-winning "Jesus Walks." His association with West actually went back several years prior; the MC's independently released Raw Dawg, issued in 2001, was produced entirely by a pre-fame West. Later signed to Mark Ronson's J Records-distributed Allido label, Rhymefest put together Blue Collar for a March 2006 release. Its first single, "Brand New," also featured production from West, as well as extensive assistance from No I.D. (Common, G-Unit). The two remain close friends today with Rhymefest recently returning from Hawaii where they were collaborating on Kanye's forthcoming project. Dropping on Duck Down Music in the Fall, the full length LP, Live from the Tape Deck, will see the Brooklyn-based duo of Skyzoo and Illmind doing what they do best — dropping hard-hitting beats over ‘rewind factor’ rhymes. “It’s not rocket science,” says Skyzoo. “There won’t be any deep undertones or personal records like The Salvation; just dope beats and rhymes that’s better than everything else out.” And with a history of dope collabo joints in the bag and a chemistry that can’t be replicated, these two creative forces plan to present raw hip hop with a unique, cohesive sound only they can produce.
“Back in the day, it was always like that,” stresses Skyzoo. “When you look at Eric B and Rakim, EPMD, NWA, A Tribe Called Quest and groups like that — you had one producer with one sound and one theme. That’s what we plan to bring with this project.” But don’t get it twisted; Live from the Tape Deck isn’t a throw back to that 90’s sound. Skyzoo explains, “The reason it’s called Live from the Tape Deck is because when labels made cassette tapes, it just so happens that was when records were dope. "Filled with crooked, broken funk and positive lyrics, some beamed in from deep space, Fonk is Declaime’s — aka Dudley Perkins — wild vision of a crossover record. It is so wild that he acts as if this effort could top Thriller during the highlight “Warrior,” which addresses MJ’s recent passing with “Moonwalk look like a million miles high/Yeah, he was OK and his moves were fine/Now it’s time for me to go for mine.” The left-field rapper’s grand vision of hip-hop domination involves a mutated resurrection of the West Coast G-funk sound created by the album’s sole producer, Quazedelic, a kindred spirit for Declaime, as he can talk third eyes and pyramid power for as long as you’d care to listen. If you like your positive vibes all squiggly and challenging, this odd re-imaging of G-funk is the first step toward a better tomorrow."

With the concept of the album coming from a trip taken by Opio and Unjust to a screening of the Big Lebowski at the historic Red Vic Theatre on fabled Haight Streeet in San Francisco on 4.20 of last year, both Unjust and Opio prepare to release The Big Lebowski Tribute Album "Mark It Zero". It was there at the Red Vic Theatre that the two men, even though they were in a confined movie theatre, thought "Fuck it, man" and fired up a joint of medicial Cali Kush prompting scores of other patron's to do the same in the theatre, thus becoming quite the far out scene. As Opio & Unjust (who are both big fans of the cult classic) got deeper into the film, they came with the idea of the tribute."
