su richiesta di Pza dò un voto al disco, che non ho messo sulla recensione per paura di scatenare inutili dibattiti del tipo: "come cazzo fai a dare voti del genere a un disco autoprodotto etc...".

Comunque, personalmente gli dò un 8 a occhi chiusi.

Teddy Faley - Apple Juice (Review)

Recensione:

Finalmente anche uno dei migliori Mc’s emergenti che abbia mai ascoltato fa il suo debutto con questo Ep, l’Mc in questione è Teddy Faley, promettententissimo rapper del Maryland, e il disco è Apple Juice: primo capitolo della serie Juice (della quale uscirà un Ep in freedownload ogni circa 6 mesi).
Sono venuto a conoscenza di questo artista tramite Myspace, subito mi sono innamorato del suo particolarissimo stile e, dopo mesi di attesa, mi trovo qui a recensire un suo lavoro. Teddy Faley per questo disco fa da “one-man-band”: rappa, produce l’intero album, lo mixa, lo registra e lo masterizza da solo.
Teddy dimostra di avere un enorme talento nel rappare, nelle sue canzoni il rap è al centro di tutto, non ci sono ritornelli che possono distrarre l’ascoltatore da quello che è il vero messaggio dei pezzi. Il suo flow è ottimo e versatile (si adatta facilmente sia pezzi lenti e tristi che a tracce cattive e caotiche) e, anche grazie alla sua calda voce, non stanca mai.
I testi sono un altro dei punti forti del disco, Ted dimostra di avere una capacità incredibile nell’uso delle metafore (“Little me, balance of a buzzard, sleeping thru the winter just to cower in the summer”, giusto per fare un esempio), che non risultano mai troppo complicate da interpretare e danno un giusto tocco di stile ai pezzi. Le sue liriche danno prova di una grande abilità di scrittura, i suoi testi sono ora introspettivi, ora drammatici, ora dolci, ora cattivi, tutto questo senza mai cadere di stile.
Ma Teddy non è soltanto un grande Mc, ma anche un ottimo produttore: i suoi beat passano dallo sperimentale quasi Industrial (Skinned Knees, Smile) a produzioni più melodiche (Been Had Been) e non risultano mai ripetitivi. Le batterie sono versatili e mai troppo grezze e sporche, ma comunque, quando serve, risultano dure e cattive come poche.
Il disco si apre con un simpaticissimo intro (con una bellissima strumentale alla fine), per poi passare ad uno dei pezzi più intensi e complicati dell’intero album: Darwin Complex. Well ha uno dei testi più belli e profondi dell’intero album, pieno di stupende metafore (“It aint the height that qualifies the ladder, it's the rungs. And you're melting your wax wings too far from the sun.”), di sicuro uno dei pezzi migliori dell’album. Been Had Been è una bellissima storia d’amicizia, beat malinconico e un ottimo Teddy, anche questo una gran bella traccia. Skinned Knees è il pezzo più cattivo dell’intero Ep, beat quasi Industrial, Ted cattivissimo per un pezzo contro chi cataloga la sua musica come “Odd Rap”. 80 Proof Beautiful è un altro pezzo molto cattivo che tratta lo stesso argomento di Skinned Knees, stupendo anche questo. Straw Man Argument, a mio parere è il peggior pezzo dell’album, il testo è stupendo, ma il beat non è all’altezza degli altri. Smile invece è il pezzo più triste dell’album, liricamente incredibile, con un beat che da melodico diventa duro e angosciante, fantastica!
In conclusione il disco in questione è un fantastico Ep di debutto da un Mc/producer con un talento davvero immenso, non mi metto a dare voti ma mi limito a consigliarvi l’ascolto di quest’album per due motivi: uno, è in freedownload e due, difficilmente ne rimarrete delusi! Teddy Faley, segnatevi questo nome perché, quasi sicuramente, ne sentirete parlare presto.

Review:

At last even one of the best emerging Mc’s i’ve ever heard makes his debut with this Ep. The Mc i’m talkin’ about is Teddy Faley, a talented rapper from Maryland, and the record is Apple Juice: first chapter of the “Juice” series (an Ep from this series will be available in freedownload every 6 months).
I found out this artist with Myspace, I immediately loved his particular style and, after months waiting for some record to come out, I’m here reviewing this incredible Ep. Teddy Faley is the “one-mand-band” of this record: he raps, produces the whole album, mixes it, records it and masters It, all by himself.
Teddy shows all is great talent in rapping, his songs do not have refrains, so that the verses are the beating heart of the songs. His flow is fantastic and versatile an,( thanks to his beautiful voice) it never bores the listener.
Lyrics are one of the strengths of the record, Ted is a master in the use of metaphors (just to make an example: “Little me, balance of a buzzard, sleeping thru the winter just to cower in the summer”), which are not too complicate to understand. His lyrics prove his ability in writing, they change from sad lyrics to angry or sweet lyrics without falling out of style.
But Teddy’s not just an incredible Mc, he’s a great producer too: his beats are now experimental and noisy (Skinned Knees), now melodic (Been Had Been) and they’re never repetitive. The drums ain’t dirty but sometimes they’re very aggressive.
The record opens with a funny intro (with a great instrumental at the end), then starts one of the most intense and complicated tracks of the Ep: Darwin Complex. Well has some of the greatestand deepest lyrics of the record, full of awesome metaphors ((“It aint the height that qualifies the ladder, it's the rungs. And you're melting your wax wings too far from the sun.”), one of the best tracks of the cd. Been Had Been is a beautiful story about friendships with a sad and melodic beat. Skinned Knees is the angriest song of the Ep, the beat sounds like some Industrial stuff, Ted is unstoppable and talks about some folks who defined his music as “odd rap”. 80 Proof Beautiful treats the same argument as Skinned Knees, this one’s fantastic too. Straw Man Argument, in my opinion, is the worst track of the album, it has great lyrics, but I don’t really like the beat that much. Smile is the saddest song of the record, awesome lyrics and a beat that, from the melodic start, becomes noisy and violent.
This is an awesome debut Ep by a fantastic Mc/Producer, I’m not giving this any rating, but I really suggest you to listen to it ‘cause it is in freedownload and I don’t think it will let you down! Teddy Faley, write this name down, ‘cause I’m quite sure you will hear about him soon!

Anyone who knows my story knows that i'm huge J Dilla fan and that I was even lucky enough to build with him repeatedly before he passed away. I am also real close with his family, both related and extended (ie: Illa J, Guilty Simpson, House Shoes, Black Milk, etc). When I did this track in '05, it was for my mixtape "The City's Favorite" and was one of the stand out tracks. It's me doing what I do back in '05. Cage si stà davvero dando da fare per non deludere i suoi fan dopo il recente spostamento della data d'uscita dell'attesissimo Depart From Me (da fine 2008 a inizio 2009), ed ecco infatti un video girato durante l'incisione del disco, che ci fà ascoltare per la prima volta una parte di un pezzo del suddetto album in aggiunta a dei dialoghi con F. Sean Martin (produttore esecutivo e chitarrista) e El-P (dai, si sà che El e Cage sono come pappa e ciccia, specialmente quando si tratta di lavorare)... Beh, che dire, pezzo malatissimo, che mi fà sperare PIU' che bene!

Tutti i Cagefanatici come me non potranno vivere senza questo video!

In sostanza Chris ci svela che è stato un anno particolarmente difficile per lui (tra le tante cose la tragica morte di Camu Tao, miglior amico di Cage) e che per questo motivo non ha potuto rilasciare l'album quando voleva. Comunque ha 30 canzoni già pronte e ogni giorno si impegna a registrare nuvi pezzi. Promette comunque che l'album sarà fuori a inizio 2009, insieme ad un Ep in freedownload: Coagulator.

Sono molto fiducioso, e sento che questa sarà la volta buona, preparatevi perchè Cage ci regalerà quasi sicuramente qualcosa di superlativo!

Inoltre Chris Palko ha annunciato che The Best And Worst Of Cage (compilation prevista per ottobre, che uscirà sotto Eastern Conference, cosa alquanto strana) è un progetto che ha il suo sopporto ed è dedicata a tutti i nuovi fan del rapper.
